RANDOLPH, N.Y. (WIVB) - A bus driver for the Randolph Central Schools is under arrest, accused of sexually abusing an underage boy.
Deputies picked up 66-year-old John Hitchcock at his home in Randolph, Friday. Hitchcock is facing seven counts of first-degree sexual abuse, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges indicate authorities believe Hitchcock had sexual contact with a child under the age of 13-years-old on multiple occasions.
According to information from the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, the incidents happened from September to October of 2012, between Randolph and Ashville in Chautauqua County.
The school district says it put Hitchcock on administrative leave, and contacted police, as soon as the allegations came to light.
The Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Offices, Child Advocacy Centers, and DA's Offices worked together on the investigation. Hitchcock is now being held at the Chautauqua County Jail.
Hitchcock will be arraigned on Monday morning. Right now, the Sheriff's Offices, Randolph Central Schools and the DA's Offices are not making any further comments.
The school district did place this message on their website:
"The Randolph Central School District has learned that John Hitchcock, a bus driver for the district, has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor. The District placed Mr. Hitchcock on administrative leave when this matter was first brought to our attention and it was immediately reported to police authorities.
