YATES, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 42-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after he tried to drive his vehicle into the trooper who had pulled him over on a western New York road.
Police say Trooper Dan Metz pulled over Carlos Botello around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after a brief pursuit on Route 18 in the rural Orleans County town of Yates, on Lake Ontario 40 miles west of Rochester.
Officials say as the trooper approached the vehicle, Botello put it in reverse and drove directly at him. Metz was able to avoid being hit as Botello's vehicle slammed into the trooper's car.
Botello then sped off but was caught after driving into a farmer's field.
He's being held in the county jail on $250,000 bail. It couldn't be determined if he had a lawyer.
