COLLINS, N.Y. (WIVB) - State Police say one of their own was injured while responding to a disturbance call where a man allegedly violently abused his girlfriend.
Troopers responded to a home on Edgewood Drive in the Town of Collins last Friday around 2 a.m. after a woman called for help from a bathroom, where she had barricaded herself to escape her violent boyfriend.
State Police say the woman received numerous injuries, including scratches, bruises, a sprained ankle, and inflammation to her lower back and spine. Prior to troopers arrival, police say the victim's boyfriend damaged the bathroom door the victim was hiding behind and put the victim's head through a wall made of plaster board. The victim was taken to Lake Shore Hospital.
Her boyfriend, Cory Cornell, no age given, was questioned outside, where police say he attempted to flee. Troopers took him into custody after a struggle, but not before one trooper sustained injury to his left foot. The trooper was taken to the hospital, where he was evaluated and released.
Cornell was arrested and charged with third degree assault, fourth degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Erie County Holding Center on $5,000 bail.
