ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Authorities have arrested a Buffalo man they say traveled to Rochester to try and have sex with a 14-year-old child.
Jafet Rivera, 24, of Buffalo was arrested in Rochester on Tuesday. The U.S. Attorney's office say Rivera had engaged in sexually explicit online chats with a 14-year-old child. The child's father found the conversations on the family computer and turned them over to authorities, who contacted the FBI.
Posing as the child, the FBI contacted Rivera, who agreed to travel to Rochester by train Tuesday morning for the purpose of having sex with the young teen. Agents arrested him at the bus station without incident.
Rivera has been charged with online enticement of a minor. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in jail and a maximum of 30. He is currently being detained pending a bail hearing.
