KIANTONE, N.Y. (WIVB) - State Police arrested 47-year-old Roman Gedz on Saturday after he allegedly repeatedly violated an order of protection issued to his ex-wife.
Authorities say Gedz forced himself into his ex-wife's vehicle on Garfield Road in Busti on Tuesday and forced her to drive her vehicle back to her home on Frissell Road in the Town of Kiantone, all while her 12-year-old son was in the vehicle. Once there, police say Gedz damaged property, including his ex-wife's phone when she tried to call for help.
The victim's daughter arrived and called police. Authorities say Gedz fled into the woods, and though NYS Forest Rangers and a helicopter were brought in, he could not be located. Warrants were placed for his arrest.
On Saturday, the woman returned to her Frissell Road home and noticed some items had been moved around. After hearing a noise upstairs, she left the area and called State Police. An initial search turned up no results, but the victim informed troopers about a hidden crawl space on the second floor. Police say they moved several large boxes and clothing to uncover the space, and located Gedz hiding inside.
After ordering him to exit, Gedz was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with second degree unlawful imprisonment, first degree criminal contempt, third degree criminal mischief, fourth degree criminal mischief, second degree harassment, and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
Gedz was arraigned and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail. His bail recommendation from the District Attorney's Office is pending.
