BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Darryl Fortner is charged with reckless endangerment, accused of having sex without disclosing that he's HIV positive. The mother of one of his children and Fortner's family are now speaking out.
The woman said, "He's a whore; there's other victims out there."
The young woman, who didn't want to show her face, is just one woman who slept with Darryl Fortner. Police fear there may be many more.
"That boy knew what he was doing," said the woman.
20-year-old Darryl Fortner was arrested and charged with felony reckless endangerment for having sex with a woman and not telling her he's HIV positive.
The woman said, "He tried to have sex with me not even a week ago, and didn't tell me nothing."
The young woman is the mother to Fortner's 2-year-old daughter, but not only that, she says, "I'm pregnant with my second, I'm 4 1/2 months."
And the baby is Fortner's as well. His family says he also has a 1-year-old son with another woman, who is also pregnant. His family believes that woman has been infected with HIV.
Fortner's brother said, "He did it to a lot of girls and he did not care."
Fortner's brother said he would brag about the girls he slept with, some as young as 14-years-old.
"He showed me girls from Facebook, that he did it to, "I did it to her, I did it to her, I did it to her,"" said Fortner's brother.
Fortner's mother added, "His father is in jail for rape and now his son, like I told him, you're going to be just like your father, and now it's come true."
And now the question is, how many women did he infect, who don't know it yet?
Chris Voltz of AIDS Community Services said, "We know that there may be up to 4,000 individuals that are HIV positive and aren't aware of their status."
AIDS Community Services offers testing every day.
Voltz said, "We have an absolutely free, 10 minute, completely anonymous HIV test."
"I went and got tested again, even though I was already tested, but I got tested again," said the woman.
The young woman tested negative both times. Authorities are urging anyone who may have had sexual contact with Fortner to call their office at 851-4073 or 851-4074.
