BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A violent home invasion left a 96-year-old man with a broken jaw. Though it's been weeks, there is still no arrest in the case.
Many in the community are waiting for a big break in the case. Darrell Saxon, a deacon at Friendship Baptist Church, is frustrated.
"In my opinion, I believe more could have been done," Saxon said.
Rev. Darius Pridgen of True Bethel Baptist Church is also waiting for a break in the case.
"There are still not enough people coming forward," he said.
It's been three weeks since Levi Clayton was brutally attacked at his Longview Avenue home. He is still recovering from the home invasion.
Buffalo Police released surveillance photos of the intrusion and three persons of interest. But so far there have been no arrests.
Days after the attack, Mayor Byron Brown had a message for those responsible.
"You can run, but you can't hide," he stated.
But police spokesman Mike DeGeorge tells News 4 there is nothing new in the case.
Clayton is a longtime deacon and member of the Friendship Baptist Church on Clinton Street. For his congregation, answers can't come soon enough.
"Everyone's on pins and needles wondering who the young people are, where they are, and when justice will be brought forth for them," Saxon said.
Rev. Pridgen believes some in the community fear retaliation and are not coming forward. But he says that same fear could make someone else the next victim.
"I think the police can only do so much that if this community really cares about its elderly, especially, that they would come together to give that information that the police really needs," he said.
Sunday morning's worship service at Friendship Baptist Church will be dedicated to Clayton. Saxon tells News 4 the 96-year-old has been transferred from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility.
