ELMA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A man has been arrested after police say he forced a child to keep her hands in a bowl of bleach, causing third degree burns.
The 15-year-old child was taken to Women and Children's Hospitals with burns on her hands. State Police say 45-year-old Gary Mathews of Elma forced the young teen to keep her hands in a bowl of bleach over a long duration, causing the injuries.
Mathews was arrested and charged with second degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. After being arraigned, he was taken to the Erie County Holding Center.
Erie Counyy Child Protection Services has been called in to assist with this case.
