HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) - Two people are fighting for their lives after a terrifying encounter with a suspected drunk driver , who is also an Erie County Sheriff's dispatcher.
Police say 28-year-old Thomas Gilray Jr, from Hamburg, was driving a pickup on Lakeshore Road at about 11 p.m. Monday. Police were clearing the road from a prior accident caused by weather. They were a 61 year old from Hamburg and a 32 year old from Hopewell Junction. Those two victims are still in critical condition. That dispatcher is under arrest.
Police arrested Gilray on charges of DWI, reckless endangerment, vehicular assault and failing to stop for an emergency vehicle. Gilray refused to take an alcohol test, so Town Police got a court order to draw blood. He is locked up on $5,000 bail.
