BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A 16-year-old teenager was arrested Saturday after he was caught carrying a weapon on him near the Gus Macker.
Officials received information over the radio regarding possible gang members with weapons going to the Gus Macker Tournament at Niagara Square.
After spotting a large group of individuals around Pearl Street and Court St., officers approached them. That's when 16-year-old Louis Thomas III of Buffalo tried to flee.
An officer had to physically subdue the teen and force him to the ground. When officials forcibly removed his hands and arrested him, they found a loaded purple semiautomatic Cobra .380 handgun under his waist.
The weapon was seized along with a large knife and a discarded shirt found at the scene. The rest of the group was turned over to the Buffalo Police Department to be interviewed.
Thomas was taken to City Court Lockup without incident.
A Good Samaritan died Wednesday while trying to assist the driver of a tractor trailer who got stuck in the snow.
A 26-year-old male employee of Ying's Wings and Things told police that Haibo Jiang, also known as Jimmy Ying, choked him until he passed out.
