BOSTON, N.Y. (WIVB) - Witnesses called police after they saw a man barely able to walk leave Tops in the Town of Boston and drive away.
Troopers arrived to the scene around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday and checked the area, locating the dark-colored car matching the description given by witnesses and say they saw the driver turn left without yielding to oncoming traffic.
State Police stopped 43-year-old Steven Townsend of Hamburg and say he failed field sobriety tests. Townsend was charged with DWI by drugs after 40 Oxycodone pills were found in his vehicle and a drug recognition expert determined Townsend was under the influence of drugs.
Townsend is due back in Town of Boston court at a later date.
