HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) - A deadly crash involving a tractor trailer and a motorcycle shut down Rt. 20 in Hamburg between Lakeview and North Creek Roads for hours Tuesday night.
The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Hamburg Police tell News 4 the motorcycle was westbound on Rt. 20 when it crossed the center line, crashing head-on into the eastbound semi.
The motorcyclist, identified as 48-year old Allan Wittmeyer of Hamburg, was killed. The semi caught fire but the driver was able to escape unhurt.
Crews reportedly had trouble getting the water needed to extinguish the flames, which were still burning two hours later. The semi was totally burned up.
The State DOT was on the scene Tuesday night coordinating cleanup efforts, and the road was closed until 2:30 a.m.
The accident is under investigation by Hamburg Police.
