ROCHESTER, NY - Eight of the 10 most polluted beaches in New York stateare located on Lake Ontario or Lake Erie.
That's according to a nationwide study conducted by the NaturalResources Defense Council.
The group looked at 350 beaches that were tested last year.
Pultneyville Mariners Beach in Wayne County on Lake Ontario wasranked the third-worst in the state in 2008, while Ontario Beach inRochester was seventh-worst.
Environmentalists say water quality in the lakes is adverselyimpacted by storm water runoff, sewer-system discharges and otherpollutants.
