OSWEGO, NY (WIVB) - Two high tech underwater vehicles are launching this week at several points along Lake Ontario to study fish, changes to food sources and algae abundance.
The vehicles are known as Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, or AUVs, and they will be collecting research data over a span of 5 years.
Several different agencies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the SUNY Colleges at Brockport and Oswego, and New York Sea Grant are involved in the mission.
The AUVs will launch at Sodus Point, Oswego, Rochester and Oak Orchard, N.Y.
