GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) - An assistant principal on Grand Island was honored Monday night for saving a student's life.
Last month, Eleanor Payne performed two rounds of CPR when a 10-year-old girl collapsed in the hallway of Grand Island Middle School. She and others helped revive the student.
They received the Heart Saver Hero Award from the Buffalo Niagara division of the American Heart Association at Monday night's school board meeting.
"It's thrilling for me. My family is here, I think having them proud of me...actually having my son in 7th grade tell me, "Mom I'm proud of you," I think just speaks volumes and just to have them here I'm very honored," Payne said.
William Brodie, Barbara Nolan and Margaret Cammarano also received the award for springing into action.
The student has since recovered and is doing very well.
