BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Erie County Executive will release the county's 2014 budget on Tuesday, but County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw has already come out swinging.
Mark Poloncarz has already said there will be no property tax increase, but Mychajliw says that may not be the case, based on assessments. And the comptroller says he is concerned about $7.4 million being used from the county's "rainy day" savings account to keep the budget balanced, a move Mychajliw says Poloncarz, then himself county comptroller, admonished then county executive Chris Collins for doing.
A spokesperson for Poloncarz says two million dollars of the fund balance is being used as a one time capital expense for major repairs at the Botanical Gardens. The county executive's office says the remainder of the fund balance was already approved by the stability authority as an appropriate, conservative use of county reserves in 2014.
The spokesperson adds Mychajliw is jumping to conclusions without knowing the real story behind the budget.
