BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Buffalo School Board cut a high paid public relations position Wednesday night. That position was created just this year by Superintendent Dr. Pamela Brown. Brown hired former News 4 Reporter Lorey Schultz to fill the new position.
The School Board members voted six to two against creating the new chief of public relations position with the district. The position was to have a yearly salary of $115,000.
News 4 spoke with Buffalo School Board President Dr. Barbara Seals Nevergold after the vote who said the need for the position is definitely there, but it was the salary of the position that had board members vote 'no' on Schultz's hiring.
Nevergold said, “I didn't vote against it, because I don't believe that there's a need, I definitely think there's a need. However, I think that we're going to have to work more creatively to fill that need." She says they need to think outside the box to meet that need..
"We're looking for some PR firms to come in and volunteer, and give us some pro-bono services some greatly reduced services to help us develop a plan," Nevergold explained.
Another position that was to be discussed Wednesday night was the future of district consultant Dr. Mary Guinn, but no action was taken by the board. Instead that issue will be handed over to the board’s legal team.
