CORFU, N.Y. (WIVB) - A major shake-up is in the works in the Village of Corfu.
At an emergency meeting Thursday night, the Board of Trustees told Mayor Ralph Peterson he must step down by next Friday, August 23 or the board will take legal action to remove him from office.
Trustees say Peterson has been trying to remove two village clerks without cause and has crossed the line while trying to do so.
Trustee Kenneth Lauer said, "They feel threatened that it's an unsafe work environment and the feel they're being harassed. So as a board we have to take action on that."
Mayor Peterson told News 4 he was advised by his attorney not to comment because of pending legal action.
