AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Bowlers teamed up in Amherst Saturday night to strike down blood cancer.
Transit Lanes welcomed about 250 people for the second annual "The Dude Hates Cancer" event to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Timothy Maxwell from the organization says, "It started out very small in Philadelphia. We raised $1400 the first year I think, but it steadily grew to the point where last year in Philadelphia they raised $84,000, and I moved up here in 2010 and I wanted to start it up here."
Organizers say they raised over $51,000 last night. A crew from News 4 participated in the event including graphic artist Jerry Vinciguerra, reporter Anthony Congi and medical expert Dr. Peter Ostrow.
