BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - There was a destructive late-night fire in Buffalo. It's still a mystery Friday morning how the late-night fire started in a Buffalo home.
One man was burned and suffered from severe smoke inhalation. Friday morning he's fighting for his life at ECMC.
Firefighters rushed to Roseville Street in Buffalo around 10 p.m. to rescue a man trapped inside the burning home.
Buffalo Fire Department Division Chief Don McFeely said, "We had reports right off the bat that there was a victim inside the building. We had family members in front of the building screaming that their father, husband was in the back."
Conditions inside the home made it difficult during the rescue.
"Fire conditions were pretty bad at the time. heavy smoke pushed throughout the whole building. Tight house, and unfortunately there was a lot of junk piled all over the place," said McFeely.
Firefighters eventually found a 60-year-old man in a bathtub in the rear of the home, suffering from severe smoke inhalation.
"Sometimes people actually figure if they go into the shower, or the bathtub they're going to be saved, but it's actually the smoke that gets them," said McFeely.
The fire, that happened between the 190 and the Larkin building, is under investigation Friday morning. News 4 called Buffalo Fire but no one answered. News 4 will keep calling officials to get more information about the victim and how this fire started.
