CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (WIVB) - A defense related company in Cheektowaga has filed notice with the State Labor Department that it will close its doors by the end of September, leaving 36 workers without a job.
DRS Technologies is the former Sierra Research which was founded by engineers from Bell Aircraft. The company leases space in a Cayuga Drive building owned by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, just west of Buffalo Niagara International Airport
DRS will attempt to relocate workers at other DRS sites in the United States.
The company reported in January that it expected to close the Cheektowaga location by the end of the year due to poor economic conditions.
