TONWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - DuPont announced Tuesday it will be slashing jobs in the Town of Tonawanda because of what it calls "low production volume."
A spokesman for the company refused to say how many positions will be eliminated, but did state DuPont will continue to employ about 600 people at its Yerkes plant. The layoffs will come at the end of the year and will be both union and non-union positions.
DuPont also has a chemical plant on Buffalo Avenue in Niagara Falls with 198 workers. There are no plans for cuts at that plant.
Dupont's poor report on its 3rd quarter earnings prompted the company to call for restructuring and 1,500 layoffs.
