WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Village of Williamsville is getting out of the water business.
Officials are turning over the village water system to the Erie County Water Authority as part of an ongoing mission to consolidate services and cut costs.
Mayor Brian Kulpa said, "As they open up their water bill, their fee will be depreciated, but their tax bill could come back inflated. And like I said, overall their costs will have gone down, it's just it's going to be a higher hit on tax bill, lower hit on water fee."
And because the method of collecting this money is shifting from a user fee to the tax levy, the village is asking the state to pass special legislation in case the consolidation pushes the tax levy next year above the state's two-percent tax cap.
