DELEVAN, N.Y. (WIVB) - Residents in Delevan heard a loud boom Friday morning, from an explosion at Gernatt Asphalt. Delevan Fire Chief Jeff Holmes says the explosion took place at 6 a.m.
New York State Police say 53-year-old Thomas L. Treadway was shutting down the plant when the explosion occurred in the conveyer belt. Mercy Flight transported Treadway to ECMC. Police say Treadway sustained burns to his upper body.
Holmes says that when their crews arrived on the scene the small fire from the explosion was out.
The explosion caused significant damage to the plant. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
The building did not need to be evacuated.
