BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - How do you celebrate the third birthday of a western lowland gorilla?
Not much differently than you would for a 3-year-old in your home, with presents, streamers and some special sweet treats. The Buffalo Zoo gave Amari the royal treatment Tuesday at the gorilla exhibit.
Primary gorilla keeper Jamie Kranz said, "We have set up the exhibit with a bunch of presents, which were basically boxes that we stuffed with goodies, sugary cereal, which is rare for them. This is a time when we can give them special little treats to celebrate her birthday."
Amari is no longer the youngest gorilla in town. A baby gorilla was born last month.
