DARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) - One person has died, following a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in Genesee County.
Two Mercy Flight helicopters responded to Broadway (Route 20) and Warner Road in Darien, near Darien Lakes State Park.
Investigators say a red car struck a family's white SUV head-on while trying to pass another vehicle.
A passenger in the SUV, 55-year-old Audrey Gleason of Baldwinsville, died at ECMC . Two other victims in the SUV were also transported to the hospital.
"The black SUV was stopped in the westbound lane of Route 20 waiting to turn left onto Warner Road, waiting for the [white] SUV to pass. While that was occurring the red sedan came along, for an unknown reason swerved into the eastbound lane and struck the white SUV head-on," explained Genesee County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Fleming.
Charges are pending against the driver of the red Chrysler, Gerald Kania, 47, of Lancaster. He suffered a leg injury.
