POMFRET, N.Y. (WIVB) - A major fire broke out in the Southern Tier at a trucking company Monday afternoon.
Many people called our newsroom or sent us pictures of the smoke and fire that burned for a few hours.
The fire came from the Town of Pomfret at the Hills Trucking, Inc. building. It took about 100 firefighters from 16 different companies nearly two hours to maintain control of the flames.

It started in a garage at the trucking structure on Route 60 and spread to another building.
Those who live nearby said they could feel explosions go off. "You could feel the pressure after the explosion on your chest and body," said Pomfret resident Jim Steger.
Firefighters said the explosions were likely caused by propane tanks inside the garage.
Both buildings were destroyed but no one was injured.
Authorities believe the blaze was sparked by an electrical or battery problem in a semi that caused flames to break out and quickly spread throughout the garage.
