BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - There was a massive overnight fire at a two-family home in Buffalo's Lovejoy neighborhood. The flames displaced a family of seven, and closed a nearby school for the day Tuesday. News 4 has learned a resident who was originally unaccounted for was located at a friend's home.
Fire crews were called to Benzinger Road around 4 a.m. The home is split into two apartments. Fire crews say a family of seven who lives in the front was able to get out safely. They did hear some noise coming from the other apartment in the back, where a young woman lives. However, it was determined that she was not in the home at the time of the fire.
The fire was right next to School 43, which is closed Tuesday because of the fire. Staff for School 43 is being asked to report to West Hertel School Tuesday morning.
The building is set for emergency demolition Tuesday.
