IRVING, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York announced Wednesday that Lake Shore Health Care Center will close on January 31st, 2014. In an open letter to the community, the health system explains they are facing financial challenges and the Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving has put pressure on the rest of the system.
Approximately 460 employees of the health care center were notified, and their last day of employment will be as early as January 16th. The system has requested a 90-day window to attempt finding a buyer for the health care center campus and services.
By the end of 2013, Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving is project to lose another $7 million. Bankruptcy for both Brooks Memorial Hospital and TLC Health Network would have been imminent if nothing was done to rectify the economic situation.
The health system's board of directors has taken steps to ensure the future of health care services of patients. The list the steps they have taken, which is included below:
• Hiring a new Chief Financial Officer to restructure financial operations
• Aligning staffing to volumes across the system
• Consolidating departments and services
• Implementing stringent cost-control measures
The move to close the facility leaves 60 long-term care patients in jeopardy.
