TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Town of Tonawanda Police were called to Dale Drive Tuesday night for reports of a man inside a home with a gun.
Police blocked off the street at Ellicott Creek Road and called a negotiator from the Amherst Police Department, but in the end the negotiator was not needed. Authorities say the 43-year-old man surrendered to officers.
Police say the man was suicidal and that alcohol was involved in the situation. He was armed with a shotgun and holed up in the basement of the home. But he later came out on his own and was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
This situation unfolded just one day after 60-year-old Joe Hollywood prompted police to lockdown schools and streets when he holed up in his basement with a gun and oxygen tank and set fire to his Fries Road home. His body was later recovered.
