LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A 26-year-old man is dead following a one-vehicle crash early Friday morning on Ridge Road in Lackawanna.
Police say a female driver crossed the double yellow line around 4:30 a.m. and struck a utility pole. Brian Matthew Spruill, a backseat passenger, died in the crash. The female driver suffered a broken arm. Two other people were in the vehicle, but police did not say whether they suffered any injuries.
The family of Brian Matthew Spruill released the following statement: "Today we ask for the communities prayers, as we lost a brother, a son, and so much more. This morning Brian Matthew Spruill passed away following a motor vehicle accident in Lackawanna. He was 26 years young with so much life. His smile, good nature, and charismatic personality will be deeply missed. He was an honor student throughout school and was a successful fashion stylist and writer. This is still an open investigation LPD and we ask to respect our family as we are filled with so much pain and sorrow. Services will be mention in the near as well as a benefit for Brian."
The accident remains under investigation.
