The Buffalo Fire Department honored two new division chiefs, seven new battalion chiefs, 10 new captains and 24 new lieutenants during a promotion ceremony. For Captain and Lieutenant Hartman, it's been an unusual challenge, but one that has paid off.
Captain Wendy Majtyka-Hartman said, "It's nice to see that hard work does pay off because that's what it's been. Hard work. It's hard work not only in the fire department. It's hard work outside of the fire department. Studying, working hard, sacrificing other issues in your family life with that short amount of study time. But hard work does pay off."
The Hartmans have three children. Lieutenant Hartman says he never expected to meet his wife at work, and jokes that she outranks him at work and at home.
They both come from families of firefighters, and for Captain Hartman, she's used to "firsts." She and her brother were the first brother/sister duo to go through the academy.
