WALES, NY (WIVB) - Erie County Sheriffs arrested multiple people Saturday night after responding to a complaint of an underage drinking party in Wales.
At approximately 11pm Saturday, an anonymous complaint was phoned into the Sheriff’s Underage Drinking Tip Line about a large underage drinking party on Schang Road in Wales that was supposed to be currently taking place. According to the complainant, there was going to be a large amount of alcohol and illegal drugs there, based upon a conversation overheard at a football game earlier in the night.
Several Deputies along with Detectives from the Narcotics Unit responded to investigate the complaint. Upon arrival, the Deputies found a large gathering of high school age youths gathered around a fire with a keg of beer, multiple bottles and cans of beer, bottles of hard liquor, and mixed drinks. Several small bags of marihuana and smoking pipes were also found discarded on the ground.
Everyone at the party was found to be under the legal age to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. Fifteen of them were arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Alcoholic Beverages by Persons Under 21. All but one was released on appearance tickets to parents, who were called to pick them up at the scene. One person was transported to ECMC for a medical evaluation due to his extremely high level of intoxication. The owner of the property, 45-year old Richard Nice was also arrested and charged with multiple counts of Unlawfully Dealing With a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child for allowing the party to take place on his property. He was processed at the scene and released on appearance tickets for Wales Court.
All evidence was photographed by a Crime Scene Investigator and subsequently destroyed (poured out) at the scene.
