Neighbors in Hamlin Park say it isn't just an overturned city planter that has them upset, but a growing pattern of disruptive activity that threatens to ruin the quality of life in their community.
Anita Guess of the Hedley Place Block Club said, "I don't know what's going on in my neighborhood, but we've just about had enough."
Mary Hill, Mid-Blaine Block Club President, added, "Turning over the planters, urinating on the lawns, throwing their garbage all around, screaming and hollering up and down the street."
Residents don't know if Canisius College students are to blame - the college is just a few blocks away - or others coming in from the outside for parties. But Public Safety officers at Canisius say they are aware of the growing problem.
Public Safety Chief Gary Everett said, "It's upsetting to our elders, our families, and to our college."
Hamlin Park is a nationally designated historic preservation district and long-term homeowners take great pride in their property.
Third generation resident Clifford Boone said, "I have a very vested interest in it. I have grandchildren and great-grandchildren I want to leave this home to, and I want this community to be stable, and clean, and well-maintained."
These neighbors say they refuse to allow their community to take a slide downward.
Mike Puma said, "A number of these small quality of life issues adding up over time really starts to bring down the neighborhood, and it's nothing that really happened on a grand scale yet, but nipping these things in the bud now is very important to ensure that they don't happen and continue to happen in the future."
