NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - The only marathon that starts in one country and finishes in another began today; it is otherwise known as the Niagara Falls International Marathon.
The race route starts in Buffalo, crosses over the Peace Bridge, loops around Fort Erie, and finishes at the Falls. Besides the full marathon, runners had the choice of a 5k, 10k, or half marathon.
Marathon Coordinator, John Grandits says, "Everyone running today had to clear customs either Friday or yesterday in Canada. So, they're already cleared as to their residents, the Visas, their passport, that's all been done."
Today's competition served as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.
