OLEAN, N.Y. (WIVB) - For the first time in years, Christmas lights won't be sparkling along North Union Street in downtown Olean.
In fact, no decorations of any kind will be hung from light poles along the main drag. City officials fear that aging light posts can't handle the extra weight.
Olean Chamber of Commerce President Vic Vena said, "Our first concern is the safety of the public, the safety of those visiting our area. We are confident that those issues will be addressed. We have funding for new lights in place, we just need to develop those plans."
Decorations will still be put up in city parks.
