BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The historic donation to Women and Children's Hospital is no longer a secret. Tuesday morning it was announced that the John R. Oishei Foundation has donated $10 million to the hospital.
The unprecedented financial gift is for the naming rights of the new hospital at Main and High Streets on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. The hospital will be called the John R. Oishei Children's Hospital.
The $10 million donation is the single largest donation the foundation has ever made. Since 1998, the foundation has donated approximately $250 million.
The groundbreaking for the hospital will take place in spring of next year, and it is expected to be completed on December 15th 2015. The 10-story hospital will have two separate surgery centers and some of the operating rooms will be double the size of operating rooms now at Women and Children's Hospital.
Designs for the hospital's new location were first shown to the public in July. You can see what the new hospital may look like in WIVB.com's photo gallery.
