RUSHFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) - Rt. 243 between Rt. 23 and Rt. 19 in the Town of Rushford was re-opened to traffic following a work zone accident involving five vehicles.
State Police say the chain reaction crash happened Friday afternoon when 88-year-old Kenneth Swann of Angelica entered the work zone and crashed into 20-year-old Nathan Andres of Sandusky, NY, who was stopped along with other drivers. Troopers say Andres' vehicle was pushed forward, involving other vehicles in the accident.
Police originally reported four vehicles were involved in the crash, but later increased the number to five.
Andres was seriously injured and taken to Olean General Hospital. Victims from the three other vehicles in the chain reaction crash were treated at the scene. There is no word on if Swann suffered any injuries.
The roadway was closed while investigators reconstructed the scene. There is no word on if any charges will be placed.
