Due to inclement weather, an additional weekend closure of the southbound South Grand Island Bridge (I-190) has been scheduled for Friday, September 13 at 11p.m. through 9 a.m. Sunday, September 15, the New York State Thruway Authority announced.
Originally, the South Grand Island Bridge was scheduled to be closed from Friday, September 6 at 11 p.m. until 9 a.m. Sunday, September 8 for construction; however, the contractor was forced to suspend work and reopen the bridge at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 due to inclement weather. This week's closure is necessary for the completion of that work.
Motorists traveling southbound on I-190 will be diverted to a single lane on the northbound South Grand Island Bridge while contractors complete a polyester concrete overlay on the bridge deck.
All work will continue to be weather dependent.
