BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Friday morning, students in the Buffalo School District are already dealing with the death of one of their classmates. Grief counselors will be on hand at Charles Drew Magnet School. That is where 13-year-old LaNasha Rollerson was supposed to start eighth grade Thursday.
Friday morning her suspected killer is still locked up, being held on $1 million bail. DerShawn Morris, 21, is charged with murder. On Thursday, News 4 spoke with Rollerson’s aunt, who wants to make it clear that the 13-year-old girl did not even have her parents’ permission to be out.
LaNasha’s aunt Kareema Morris said, "What was your child doing when they were a teenager? Children challenge their parents. There is absolutely not one parent out there that can say their child is perfect, and their child does not do things that they don't permit. We don't permit our children to roam the nights, the streets. She challenged us as parents, that's something she did . Should she be help accountable for that? If she was here we could, unfortunately it cost her her life."
Friends of LaNasha Rollerson’s family are holding a vigil for her Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Martin Luther King Park. Her funeral is planned for next Thursday.
