Lorraine Elementary started "Bully-free Friday's," where kids have to commit to a random act of kindness .In doing so, they have learned how grave the effects of bullying can be.
The Rodemeyer's shared their family's story with the kids of how their 14-year-old son Jamey killed himself after classmates constantly tormented him.
The story hit home with one 7th grade student, Zachary Holewka. "Students should have a safe environment to learn in the school building," he said. After the race, he was one of the winners of the Jamey Rodemeyer Anti-bullying award for his pro-active attitude at school.
"Whenever I saw bullying, I just reported it to the nearest teacher," Holewka said.
Jamey's father, Tim said, "It makes us feel good to see that people are sick of seeing people get bullied at school. It's good to see people want to see their kids go to school in a safe place and have fun and learn and not have to worry about going to school and get picked on or not."
Money raised from the race will go towards Anti-bullying education and bully prevention programs at Lorraine Elementary.
