Roadwork on the southbound, South Grand Island Bridge, originally planned to take place Friday night and Saturday is now set to begin Sunday evening. The bridge reopened Saturday morning after weather forced contractors to scrub their plans for Friday night and Saturday.
The work is expected to tie up traffic on Interstate 190. The southbound South Bridge connecting the Town of Tonawanda and Grand Island will be closed while contractors complete a polyester concrete overlay on the bridge deck.
While the work is done, both northbound and southbound traffic will use the northbound South Bridge, each getting just one lane.
According to the New York State Thruway Authority, work begins at 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Drivers are advised to plan for delays and find an alternate route if possible.
