OLEAN, NY (WIVB) - A new event in Olean helps support, and make people aware, of children who are abused in New York State.
The Jamestown Community College campus in Olean hosted the first "Step up for kids" 5K run and walk on Saturday.
This event is just one of 17 events that happened across the state. The walk held in Olean is put together by the Southern Tier Child Advocacy Center.
Lori Reiman, Cattaraugus County DA, says "It's a healthy event for kids to participate in, with their parents and their families. It's an athletic event-- to a child's success in an athletic event can mean all the difference in the world."
Events included obstacle courses, food and music. Child advocacy centers provide assistance to over 18 thousand children in New York State each year.
