TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Students at Hoover Middle School honored their classmate on Wednesday, who was killed before the start of the school year.
Students walked on Thorncliffe Avenue, in memory of Imani Gilbert, who was struck and killed by a car in August while he was riding his bicycle across Delaware Road at Sheridan Drive. Gilbert would have turned 13 on September 3.
In August, Felicia Viverette remembered her son’s best friend as, "He was very impressionable. He was smart. He loved sports; basketball, football. He was a happy kid. He was a good kid. He didn't deserve to die.”
Students organized this walk themselves. Gilbert would have been in 8th grade this year.
