ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Buffalo man has been arrested after deputies say he did serious damage to the grounds at Chestnut Ridge Park using his SUV.
Park workers called the Erie County Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon after discovering fresh ruts near one of the shelters in the park. Deputies arriving on scene found an SUV covered in mud attempting to leave and stopped the driver.
Authorities say 22-year-old Joseph Ballo admitted intentionally causing the extensive damage. He was charged with third degree criminal mischief and released on an appearance ticket.
Park officials will be assessing the damage to determine the cost to repair the grounds, and will be seeking restitution to prevent any undue burden on taxpayers.
