BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Tim Hortons is helping keep the Buffalo Zoo's baby polar bears stay in Western New York.
The push to build a new polar bear exhibit at the zoo is becoming a community-wide drive. Tim Hortons gave officials a check for $20,000 on Tuesday.
The coffee and bakery chain raised the money by selling a special edition strawberry sundae donut. All of the proceeds from the donut sales were donated to the zoo.
The polar bears are one of the most popular attractions at the Buffalo Zoo.
Michael Powers said, "Everybody has embraced them. What's not to love? Just having these guys, you can't see them in any other zoo like this. So close to them. We're headed for our best attendance year ever."
The zoo is now in the last leg of its campaign to raise money for a new polar bear exhibit. Right now it is still about $2 million short of its goal.
