CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A deadly accident on the I-90 East involving a pedestrian backed up traffic for miles shortly before the start of rush hour.
State Police say around 4:25 p.m., a man got out of his vehicle after pulling over onto the shoulder of the eastbound lanes. He was struck in the middle lane by a tractor trailer, just beyond Exit 53 (I-190). The I-90 East was closed for around three hours at Exit-53 as police investigated the accident.
There was also an accident around the same time on the I-90 West beyond Exit 52A (William Street). That crash closed the left lane, but it was cleared long before the accident on the I-90 East.
Traffic was backed up on the I-90 East for miles Thursday night during rush hour as cars were diverted onto the I-90 West around the accident scene. The I-90 East has since been re-opened and traffic has returned to normal.
