BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Western New Yorkers experienced high winds Friday morning, during their trip into the office or to school. Overnight, News 4 crews were busy driving all over western New York for reports of crashes, wires down and trees down.
A crash on Sweet Home Road sent wires into the street around 2 a.m. Police say it was a pretty dangerous scene and they were instructing fire crews to be especially cautious. The road was cleaned up about an hour later.
Over on the east side of Buffalo, crews moved quickly to fix power lines after a tree came down. Part of the tree took out power lines, other parts fell on the house and others on cars in the street. No one was hurt.
In Chautauqua County giant waves were crashing into the Barcelona Pier on Lake Erie. In Cheektowaga, a tree toppled right onto a truck on Bennett Road. Behind Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo, a massive tree fell to the ground.
There have been thousands of outages throughout the area Friday. Kenmore and Williamsville were experiencing the most power outages.Lockport, Niagara Falls and Fredonia are among the places where there are reports of trees down.
A High Wind Warning is still in effect for much of the area and a lesser Wind Advisory in Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties, and Northern Pennsylvania will continue until 4 p.m. Friday. There should be a noticeable drop in the wind speed getting toward evening.
