BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The kickoff of the Buffalo Wing Fest is Wednesday afternoon. The festival isn't taking place until August 31st, but Wednesday you can get free chicken wings at Niagara Square from noon until 1 p.m.
Festival founder Drew Cerza said, "We've always had restaurants from all over the country; we've never had a restaurant from outside the country. This year we've got what was rated as the number one sports bar in North America: the Real Sports Bar out of Toronto. They're going to be our first international visitor."
Forty tons of jumbo wings have already been ordered and a total of 32 restaurants have already signed up to take part in the event at Coca-Cola Field. Also new this year, visitors will be allowed to purchase merchandise and food tickets with a credit card, and there will be a new vegetarian wing!
This year marks the 12th year of the Wing Fest.
