LOS ANGELES (AP) — A group of engineers, designers and entrepreneurs has been working to turn one man's vision of zipping between Los Angeles and San Francisco in half an hour into a reality.
Now that group has a name: Hyperloop Transportation Technologies Inc.
The newly minted company announced Thursday that it has secured help from several high-tech firms and UCLA's architecture school.
The Hyperloop concept was unveiled to much fanfare in August. It involves shooting air-cushioned capsules full of people through elevated tubes at the speed of sound.
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk challenged the public to take his idea and get it built since he's too busy with other projects like electric car maker Tesla and rocket maker SpaceX.
The new company's leaders hope to create a Hyperloop prototype by early 2015.
